Daisyfield Primary School
The care you don't see: inside a school that wanted to change.
A school community rooted in care
At the heart of Daisyfield Primary School lies a warm, inclusive ethos that pulses through its multi-cultural community.
With nearly 300 children on roll, ranging from Nursery to Year 6, Headteacher Lisa Banks leads a school where care, aspiration, and belief shape every child’s journey.
The majority of the school’s families are Muslim and speak English as an additional language - a context that makes communication, safeguarding, and wellbeing not just essential, but a personal necessity.
Living by their mission, Dream, Believe, Achieve, the Daisyfield team works hard to remove barriers so every child can thrive. But when it came to first-aid and health tracking, Lisa and her team knew their systems were falling short of the care they aspired to offer.
The limitations of a paper past
Before adopting Medical Tracker, Daisyfield relied on a paper-based system to record healthcare incidents and manage student health needs - a method that quickly proved outdated and inefficient. Lisa was not alone.
Over 92% of all inquiries into Medical Tracker come from schools looking to transition away from a paper-based system for medical and healthcare.
On their reliance on paper, Lisa recalls, “This was difficult. As the Headteacher, I struggled to keep track of patterns and trends in injuries, and it was time-consuming for staff.”
Across our ~3,000 schools, we find that Headteachers, Office staff, and healthcare practitioners have an equal vested interest in Medical Tracker but a different daily use. For Lisa and many other headteachers, Medical Tracker offered a window into the physical health of the entire school.
Staff at Daiseyfield handed out slips at the end of the school day, but these were frequently lost or forgotten, leaving parents in the dark. More concerning still was the vulnerability of sensitive information. “The security of personal data was also a concern with the paper logs,” Lisa shares. It wasn’t just about inefficiency but integrity, trust, and safety.
Research shows that 52% of primary schools identified a data breach/attack last year. It becomes easy to understand why this may be the case with a paper-based system. Sending our students home with paper slips in their backpacks or incident information records poses a risk to their data as well as the school's.

Seeking a safer, more innovative approach
Motivated by needing a faster, GDPR-compliant, and more transparent process, Lisa and her team began looking for alternatives. “We were looking for a more time-efficient, GDPR compliant, information-sharing system which was more robust,” she explains.
Enter Medical Tracker. From the very first demo, Lisa was impressed. “Excellent! The demos were great, and the information captured was more accurate.” It quickly became clear that the platform offered more than just digital record-keeping - it offered a step change in how Daisyfield could care for its children.
Implementation and early adoption
Transitioning to Medical Tracker proved simple and effective for the whole school team. “It’s simple to use for all staff,” Lisa affirms. Perhaps one of the most significant advantages? Parents now receive real-time reports of any injuries during the school day, bridging a vital gap in communication.
A small detail illustrates a bigger picture: Daisyfield is now equipped with a flexible, responsive system that evolves alongside their needs.
According to a parent survey 2024 by The Youth Sport Trust, 92% believe that sport and play are essential to every young person’s education and development.
So, if we're fostering a culture of physical activity at home and at school, we need a robust process to provide end-to-end care and communication when accidents happen.

Towards a culture of data-driven care
Though Lisa is still exploring the full scope of Medical Tracker’s reporting features, the impact is already being felt. “I’m still learning how to use the reporting features,” she shares. “I was asked many questions in my Spring Governors meeting, and I’ll be in touch with Medical Tracker before my Summer meeting to make sure I fully know how to respond.”
This growing confidence in the platform’s capabilities also drives wider insights into school systems. One unexpected benefit? “I love how it is integrated with our MIS. This has helped us to uncover issues with our MIS that we have been able to address.”
The platform is becoming a central part of school operations, from accident reports to medication tracking. “We can be sure we are GDPR compliant and can keep track of the medicines kept in school.
This is just under development with us in school, but once we have it up and running, I look forward to seeing a further reduction in teacher administration workload.”

Building trust with parents
Families have received the shift to electronic notifications well. “Parents have been positive so far - especially now we have managed to share the incident with them.” That transparency builds trust, and for a school community where language and cultural nuances can sometimes present challenges, this clarity is invaluable.
A platform that exceeds expectations
Though it's still early for Lisa to conclude long-term trends, she’s already confident that Medical Tracker delivers value. “The reliability, accuracy and efficient mode of Medical Tracker so far exceeds my expectations.”
When asked how she’d feel if Daisyfield had to return to their old processes, her answer is instant and firm: “Very disappointed.”

Whether it's a paper-based system, a limited MIS module or a hybrid method somewhere in between - it doesn't hurt to see what else is out there.
It helps me with our site manager and look at health and safety improvements. For example, In technology, the bulk of our injuries were eye injuries and it was through not wearing safety goggles. So we were able to locate what health and safety issues are happening in departments.

It's a really simple solution to a complex problem. I can't think why no one has come up with it before now. It’s also easy to get support and the system is being developed all the time.
